Donald Trump appeared to nod off while delivering remarks at the Rose Garden on August 24. After discussing "expanding school choice", the US President seemed in need of sleep. A brief clip showing him closing his eyes was shared on X, accompanied by the caption: "Ok guys, I think Trump nodded off here at the Rose Garden."
Not the first time
This isn't the first occasion Trump has been labelled "sleepy" – there have been numerous instances during his second term as president where he's been spotted "napping".
Back in April this year, Trump attended the White House as his administration unveiled changes to its child vaccination policy. Yet clips circulated on X seemed to show the President drifting off during the briefing.
Reactions online
Journalist Aaron Rupar tweeted: "Holy s*** Trump is OUT." Sharing another clip from the same briefing, Rupar commented: "Trump's body language is crazy. This woman is trying to talk to him and he can't keep his eyes open!"
Another wrote: "That pretty much sums up the sorry state of our republic. A circus with a declining octogenarian at the helm. This is not normal, but for republicans and their enablers it is. America is asleep and all Republicans are cowardly sell-outs."
One user remarked: "Why hasn't 'Sleepy Donny' made the rounds yet?" Some users defended the apparently drowsy president, with one posting: "Instead of obsessing over whether others are asleep, it is better to spend more time making your own life easier. Even if he were asleep, would your life be better?"
Previous incidents and recent speculation
Previous instances in which the US President supposedly nodded off include a 'Making Health Technology Great Again' event at the White House last summer, as well as a cabinet meeting.
Trump also recently fuelled further speculation regarding his health after a television appearance captured him disembarking Air Force One while repeatedly patting his leg as he descended the aircraft's steps.
The latest bout of apparent drowsiness comes as Trump took to Truth Social to lambast Canada, writing that the country wants "the benefits of being a State, without being one! ! !". He accused Ottawa of charging American farmers "massive amounts of Tariffs" for years, rounding off his post with "No more! ! !".
