Carlos Alcaraz Misses Wimbledon, Recovers in Hometown Murcia
Alcaraz Recovers in Murcia After Missing Wimbledon

Carlos Alcaraz, the two-time Wimbledon champion, is spending his recovery from a wrist injury in his hometown of Murcia, Spain, opting for a low-profile retreat in the hamlet of El Palmar. The 23-year-old world No. 2 was forced to skip this year's Wimbledon after announcing his withdrawal in May.

Where is Carlos Alcaraz Recovering?

Alcaraz has chosen to focus on his rehabilitation away from the media, returning to the quiet streets and vegetable gardens of El Palmar. The area is known for its cosy neighbourhood life, olive groves, and landmarks such as the Church of the Immaculate Conception. The Sierra de El Puerto offers scenic views of the Murcian countryside.

“Murcia is greatly underrated,” Alcaraz said on the ‘Iguales’ podcast. “We’ve got beaches, mountains, a lovely climate and great food. There are some spectacular places.”

What is Alcaraz Doing During His Recovery?

The tennis star is believed to enjoy walks at the Jardín de los Chorletes, a park with Mediterranean vegetation and tranquil footpaths. He also savours local cuisine sourced from nearby gardens. Alcaraz has been spotted at the El Palmar beach, one of the region's attractions.

Alcaraz's commitment to Murcia extends beyond his recovery. The Carlos Alcaraz Tennis City, a high-performance complex, is designed to make Murcia an international hub for tennis training, targeting young talent and strengthening his ties to the area. “My aim is to put Murcia on the map, because I love my city and my home, and that’s what we’re trying to convey,” he said.

How Did Alcaraz Announce His Withdrawal?

Alcaraz withdrew from the Barcelona Open and the French Open before announcing he would miss Wimbledon. In an Instagram post, he wrote: “My recovery is going well, and I'm feeling much better, but unfortunately, I'm still not ready to compete, which is why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen's and Wimbledon. They are two truly special tournaments for me and I will miss them a lot. We'll keep working to come back as soon as possible.”

The absence of Alcaraz has been a notable talking point at this year's Wimbledon, where he is a two-time champion. Fans have expressed disappointment but remain hopeful for his return.
