Jamal Musiala collapsed for the second time in just a few days during Bayern Munich's pre-season friendly against FC Heidenheim, receiving medical treatment on the pitch. The 23-year-old dropped to the ground minutes after coming off the bench, and was subsequently escorted off by medical personnel, according to the Mirror.
Protective circle formed around midfielder
Players from both teams formed a protective circle around Musiala as he received attention from club medics. The incident follows a similar episode against RB Leipzig last week, when the German international collapsed after scoring in the 81st minute and had to be replaced in the 85th.
That earlier collapse was attributed to scorching temperatures in Munich, with Musiala having come off the bench in the 71st minute. Speaking after that match, Bayern chief Max Eberl said: "The most important thing is that he is well. There's nothing more to say about anything else." Manuel Neuer added: "It will become clear what it was. But of course we are keeping our fingers crossed."
Recent return from injury
Musiala's latest collapse follows his return to Bayern training, having participated in individual sessions after examinations earlier this week. He was absent for the opening six months of the previous season due to a fractured ankle picked up at the Club World Cup last summer.
He recovered in time to earn selection for Germany's 2026 World Cup squad, where Die Mannschaft were eliminated at the last-32 stage by Paraguay. Musiala has been at Bayern since moving from Chelsea in 2019, having previously come through Southampton's academy system.
Career stats and contract
He has made 231 appearances for Bayern, scoring 69 goals, and has been capped 46 times by Germany, netting ten times, having previously represented England at youth level. His contract with Bayern runs through until 2030.
Bayern's campaign begins this weekend against Borussia Dortmund in the German Supercup, followed by their opening league fixture against Stuttgart. Bayern won their final warm-up match against Heidenheim 4-2.
