Max Dowman may be heading into this season as a Premier League champion, but he remains banned from sharing a dressing room with his Arsenal team-mates. The 16-year-old became a familiar presence in Mikel Arteta's squad last season, featuring in 13 matches and playing his part as his side claimed the title for the first time in 22 years.

Among his most notable contributions came during the title run-in against Everton, where his introduction sparked a late 2-0 win that included a goal of his own, making him the youngest scorer in Premier League history.

Now, the youngster – along with the rest of his team – is just hours away from launching Arsenal's campaign against Coventry City tonight (Friday evening). Yet Dowman will not be allowed to use the home dressing room alongside his squad owing to league regulations.

Premier League rules stipulate that any player under the age of 18 must change in a separate area from the main group for both training sessions and matches. Such players are also forbidden from displaying betting sponsors on their shirts, though this does not affect Dowman and Arsenal because they are sponsored by Emirates.

Dowman's Role and Future Prospects

The attacker is permitted to enter the dressing room for tactical briefings and pre-match team talks. However, he will have to wait until the very end of 2027 before he can join in post-match celebrations.

That is unlikely to diminish how vital Dowman could prove for Arteta and Arsenal this season following his breakthrough campaign last time out. The teenager has played a significant role in Arsenal's pre-season build-up, netting and providing an assist in a 4-1 victory over Girona.

He remained on the bench as an unused substitute as the Gunners defeated Manchester City 3-0 to claim the Community Shield last weekend.

Arteta's High Expectations

Arteta holds lofty ambitions for Dowman, maintaining the youngster possesses all the ability to produce top-class displays. Speaking following the triumph over Girona, he said: "That's what we want when you play for Arsenal. Expectations should be high and should be expecting really good things. We know what he's capable of doing. We want to be more consistent in terms of performance and the actions that he can deliver. I think he had a really good game."
