Plans to introduce artificial pitches at two secondary schools in Renfrewshire have been unveiled, a move welcomed by a local councillor. If approved, synthetic surfaces, fencing, and floodlighting will be installed at Linwood and St Benedict's high schools.
Planning Applications Submitted
Separate planning applications for the upgrade works have been submitted to Renfrewshire Council's planning department. The projects follow a £1.4 million allocation in the SNP administration's budget, which passed with a 23-11 vote in late February.
Community and School Benefits
Councillor Robert Innes, representing Houston, Crosslee and Linwood, expressed delight at the progress. He said: "I'm delighted to see these improvements progressing. I have been pressing for these upgrades because I know what a difference quality sports facilities make to young people and the wider community. This investment will give pupils better facilities for PE and school sport, while also providing modern spaces for local clubs and community groups after school hours."
Once completed, every high school in Renfrewshire will have an all-weather pitch. Architects have prepared drawings and blueprints for the sites on Stirling Drive and Bridge of Weir Road, with civil and structural engineers including relevant assessments. Decisions on the applications are expected from Renfrewshire Council planning officers at a later date.
