South African rugby is in mourning following the death of Springboks legend Joggie Jansen, who has passed away at the age of 78.
Jansen, born on February 5, 1948, picked up 10 caps for the Springbok between 1970 and 1972. It was his first Test appearance against the 'invincible' New Zealand of 1970 that would etch his name into Springbok folklore.
Famous tackle against New Zealand
With the match finely poised, New Zealand's Wayne Cottrell received the ball on the blind side, only for Jansen to launch a perfectly-timed tackle to halt the attack and swing momentum South Africa's way. The Springboks went on to win 17-6, giving Jansen a dream international debut. That tackle became one of the defining moments of his career.
South Africa Rugby president Mark Alexander said: “Joggie Jansen was a proud Springbok who represented his country with the commitment and courage required to wear the green and gold jersey at Test level.
“He was a formidable rugby player and a wonderful example of the uncompromising spirit that characterised the Springboks of his generation. His famous tackle against New Zealand is part of Springbok folklore, but his contribution went far beyond one moment. He was a Test player for South Africa and therefore an important part of our rugby heritage.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, former team-mates and all those who knew and loved him. May they find comfort in the memories of a remarkable rugby man and in the knowledge that his contribution to the Springbok story will not be forgotten.”
Mee being tracked by Premiership clubs
Wales winger Ellis Mee is reportedly on the radar of several Premiership clubs after entering the final year of his contract with the Scarlets. According to Rugbypass, Mee's name is being considered by a few recruitment chiefs across the border.
Mee started his professional career in the Championship with hometown side Nottingham, joining the Scarlets two years ago. He has since gone on to make 12 Test match appearances for Wales, scoring one try.
Mee is now entering the final year of his three-year contract with the Scarlets, which has seemingly alerted a few clubs. Fellow Welsh side Cardiff have also previously been credited with interest.
Bok prop targeted
The same report has also claimed that Bordeaux are possibly eyeing a move for Stormers loosehead Ntuthuko Mchunu. The French side are believed to be keen on bolstering their front row, and have reportedly considered the 27-year-old as an option.
Mchunu started his career with the Sharks in Durban, and has since won four caps for the Springboks, all from the bench. His most recent Test appearance came against Scotland at Loftus Versfeld in July.
It's claimed Bordeaux have compiled a list of several possible signings for next summer, with Bath and England prop Beno Obano believed to be one of them.
