Louis Rees-Zammit has revealed he has received “unbelievable” interest from clubs following his decision to return to rugby union after 18 months in the NFL. The former Wales winger spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars but did not play a regular-season game for either franchise.
“I can’t name teams, but I’ve had a load of interest, which is unbelievable. I’m very grateful for that,” Rees-Zammit told Sky Sports News. “The season starts pretty soon. So it’s about finding the right team for me in terms of location, in terms of how quick I’ve got to get into camp.” He added that negotiations with his brother are ongoing and an announcement could come within a week.
The 24-year-old, who earned 32 caps for Wales and toured with the British & Irish Lions in 2021, expressed his desire to reignite his international career. “Playing for my country is the pinnacle and it’s one that I absolutely love doing,” he said. “Once we find a team, get into good form and hopefully come Autumn internationals, see where selection is.”
Rees-Zammit announced in January 2024 that he was retiring from rugby to pursue an NFL career via the International Player Pathway Program. He signed an active roster deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 2025 season after being on their practice squad in 2024. On Friday, he posted on Instagram: “I’ve decided to leave the NFL and return to rugby! It’s been a great experience, but it’s time to come home.” His return could boost new Wales head coach Steve Tandy, who recently ended an 18-match losing streak.
