Pollock drafted in as emergency wing for England

Henry Pollock was called into emergency action for England against Australia in the Nations Championship, coming off the bench at half-time to play on the wing. The back-row replaced Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, who failed to shake off a first-half injury.

The Exeter Chiefs wing looked frustrated as he limped off, having picked up a knock following a hip-drop tackle by Wallabies prop Angus Bell at Allianz Stadium.

World Rugby's new tackle law

Bell was sin-binned for the hip-drop tackle on Feyi-Waboso in the 32nd minute of the fixture in London. In doing so, he became one of the first players to be punished since World Rugby changed its rules on hip-drop tackles at the start of the month.

Bell appeared unimpressed by the decision, and former England second-row commentator Ben Kay, who had attended a World Rugby media conference last week to explain the law change, was fairly sympathetic.

"I'd say it's him trying to get his knee to ground," said Kay. "He's not trying to go across deliberate. It's not clearcut. One of the things that was said is that you're probably going to only see these when someone is injured."

Pollock makes an impact out wide

Having lasted until half-time, Feyi-Waboso did not emerge for the second half, with ITV's cameras capturing him looking gutted as he left the field at the end of the first half.

"He looks desperately disappointed," said former England wing Ugo Monye on the coverage. "I think Henry Pollock's going to the wing. Henry Pollock - the blonde bombshell - is about to go to the wing."

With England naming a six-two bench, with only Ben Spencer and Marcus Smith covering the backline, it was always possible Pollock could be brought on to cover the outside backs. The Northampton back-row made an immediate impact out wide, with a strong carry in the build-up to Jack van Poortvliet's try early in the second half, and he crossed out wide minutes later.
