Max Ojomoh Starts for England Against Argentina After Dingwall Injury
Ojomoh starts for England after Dingwall injury

England head coach Steve Borthwick has been forced into a significant midfield reshuffle for the team's final autumn international against Argentina this Sunday, with Max Ojomoh named to start at inside centre.

Midfield Crisis Forces Change

The promotion of the Bath player comes as a direct result of an injury to Fraser Dingwall, who has been withdrawn from the squad due to a side strain. This injury completely dismantles the centre partnership that performed so effectively in England's impressive 33-19 victory over New Zealand last weekend.

Dingwall had been expected to recover from a minor issue picked up during the All Blacks clash in time for the match at Allianz Stadium. However, his inability to train on Wednesday sealed his fate, following Ollie Lawrence onto the sidelines after his hamstring injury.

Ojomoh's Big Opportunity

Ojomoh, the 25-year-old son of former England back-row Steve Ojomoh, will earn only his second international cap. He forms a brand-new midfield combination with the experienced Henry Slade, who will be making his first appearance of the autumn series in the number 13 jersey.

England's defence coach, Richard Wigglesworth, was full of praise for the new call-up. "Max is an elite-level attacker in terms of his ball movement, his vision and how he connects on the run," Wigglesworth stated.

He further highlighted Ojomoh's development, noting his improved movement off the ball and consistent defensive progress. "You see the teams that he plays in, how much better he makes them when they’ve got the ball and I expect him to bring that to our team this Sunday," Wigglesworth added.

Building Towards the Future

The selection is a clear reward for Ojomoh's strong and sustained performances for his club. "He’s played so well for Bath for an extended period of time and has started the season well," Wigglesworth confirmed.

This unexpected start represents a crucial test for the young centre. The coaching staff believes he is ready for the challenge, with Wigglesworth concluding, "He’s been in and around the squad, he’s the guy who deserves the opportunity and we feel like he’s ready to take the next step." All eyes will now be on this untested partnership as England look to finish their autumn campaign on a high.
