Newcastle injury latest: Jaouen, Miley, Joelinton, Burn dates

Newcastle United could be without several first-team players for their Premier League match against Coventry City on Monday, October 12, at the Coventry Building Society Arena. Head coach Matthias Jaissle has a number of injury concerns to navigate ahead of the 8pm kick-off.

The Magpies sit ninth in the table after five games, with two wins, two draws, and one loss. Players are returning to Tyneside after the international break for the Nations League, but not all are fully fit.

Goalkeeper and midfield concerns

Ewen Jaouen was sent home from France Under-21s duty early after picking up an injury in training. The 6ft 6in goalkeeper, a £25million summer signing, had just recovered from an ankle issue that kept him out for three matches. He is likely to miss the Coventry game, with Nick Pope potentially serving as back-up to Lukas Hornicek.

Lewis Miley also returned from England Under-21s duties early due to a training injury. The 20-year-old midfielder will be assessed further at Newcastle, though his issue is not thought to be long-term.

Forward and defensive updates

Joelinton has made only two pre-season appearances due to injury and is yet to feature competitively this season. He has returned to training, but his availability remains unknown. Will Osula suffered a foot injury in the opener against Liverpool in late August. Jaissle said: "He's now permanently getting the best treatment. We have a fantastic medical department, but it's still too early to make a clear prognosis, a clear time frame when he's back, but he's working hard in the rehab like all the others."

Dan Burn rolled his ankle before the Liverpool match and was seen wearing a protective boot. He said: "It's my not first injury and I'm sure it won’t be my last, but hopefully I won't be out for too long - I expect to be back after the international break."

Return dates and other absentees

Tino Livramento withdrew from England's Nations League squad to recover from a minor setback. Jaissle said: "He suffered with some discomfort in the morning after yesterday's (Friday's) training. He will have an MRI scan but nothing more from my side on this. After this international window. We hope, we pray, and we're optimistic." Livramento is expected to return for the Coventry match.

Nico Gonzalez missed the 2-1 win over Hull City but is back in training and could be available. Amar Dedic, who pulled out of Bosnia & Herzegovina's squad, should be fit after a hamstring issue. Jacob Ramsey is not thought to have major setbacks in his recovery from a thigh injury. Anthony Elanga's thigh injury is not as bad as first feared, with a potential return in mid to late October.
