Dan Neil captained Rangers as they drew 1-1 with Kaizer Chiefs in a behind-closed-doors friendly in Spain. The match, played in searing heat, saw Findlay Curtis score the equaliser after the South African side took the lead.
McInnes hints at captaincy plans
Derek McInnes handed the armband to Neil for the entire first half, a clear signal of his intentions for the upcoming season. The midfielder marshalled a midfield four alongside Chukwuani, with Mohamed Diomande on the right and Oliver Antman on the left.
Debuts and team selection
Lawrence Shankland was among the debutants, introduced as a second-half substitute. The forward joined fellow new signing Youssef Chermiti in attack, while Ryan Naderi also started. Rydnn McGuire started in goal behind a back four of Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey, Dujon Sterling, and Tuur Rommens.
The first half ended goalless, but a raft of changes at the break saw Shankland and Curtis enter the fray. Curtis struck late to cancel out Kaizer Chiefs' opener, earning a draw for the Ibrox side.
Other substitutes and absentees
Keeper Mason Munn, Emmanuel Fernandez, and Nedim Bajrami were among the other used substitutes. New signings Ivor Pandur and Cammy Devlin were absent, still resting after their World Cup involvement.
Rangers had previously beaten Raith Rovers and Dunfermline in bounce games before jetting out to Spain, where the standard of opposition increased in the intense heat.
Upcoming friendlies
Rangers fans will get their first close-up look at the team in two glamour friendlies at Ibrox later this month, against St Etienne and West Ham.
