The British & Irish Lions secured a dramatic 29-26 victory over Australia in the second Test in Brisbane, taking an unassailable 2-0 series lead. A record crowd of over 90,000 watched the Lions come from 23-5 down to win, with Hugo Keenan scoring the decisive try in the 79th minute.
The Wallabies exploded into the game with three tries in nine minutes – James Slipper, Jake Gordon and Tom Wright crossing – to stun the Lions. Tom Lynagh added two penalties as Australia raced to a 23-5 lead. The Lions responded before half-time through Tom Curry and Huw Jones, reducing the deficit to 23-17.
After the break, Tadhg Beirne’s try and a Finn Russell conversion put the Lions ahead 26-24 with 20 minutes remaining. A Lynagh penalty levelled the scores before Keenan’s late effort, upheld after a check on a clear-out by Jac Morgan, sealed the win. The Lions won the final hour 24-3 and scored five tries in total.
The victory marks the first time the Lions have won the opening two Tests of a series since 1997, and they remain unbeaten on Australian soil this tour. The third Test will be played in Sydney next Saturday.
