Jordan warns Howe against 'sideways' move

Simon Jordan has warned Eddie Howe his next managerial job can't be a 'sideways' move after leaving Newcastle United earlier this summer.

Howe linked with Everton

Howe is set to take a break after leaving St. James' Park, but was mentioned as a possible successor to Everton manager David Moyes if he doesn't get off to a good start this season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Moyes outlined his desire to get the Toffees back into European football next season before they went on a seven-game winless run. That piled pressure on the Everton boss, with his team squandering a golden opportunity to return to Europe.

Jordan's warning

Speaking on talkSPORT, Jim White and Jordan discussed a hypothetical move to the Toffees for Howe, but the former Crystal Palace owner sent a clear warning to Howe.

Jordan said: "Eddie Howe's step from Newcastle can't be sideways, what's the purpose of that for Eddie? If he needs a job...I don't suspect he needs a job. These guys have got more money than (King) Solomon."

"The idea that he needs a job against wanting a job - if he jumps from Newcastle to Everton, what is he achieving besides getting a job?"

Financial constraints

Jordan added: "If that were the situation? We are just rumour-mongering here, but if that were the situation. He would be in a similar situation.

"You can't want a better ownership model than the Saudis because they would be prepared to spend money if they could, supposedly?"

"Everton are in the exact same position. How do Everton trade themselves up to five-or-six-hundred million turnovers? They buy better players to get more on-field success.

"How can you buy better players if you can't because you are being governed by FFP or whatever it is called in this day and age, PSR or whatever."

Jordan concluded: "The bottom line is these clubs are in very...there are no more Man City or Chelsea coming over the hill. The gang has been decided, it will allow a little whiff of it every now and again."

"Villa, you can have a little whiff but you can't really kick on. You can't really kick on because you can't go and buy a £125m (Alexander) Isak. We can take your best players, you can't take ours.

"You have to go down the pyramid and buy the lesser players and then we will wait for you to make them better players and then will nick them off you for top money."
