Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin could miss Saturday's trip to Kilmarnock after being taken to hospital. The Tannadice boss fell ill on Thursday and was hospitalised overnight, missing training on Friday.
Goodwin was kept in for testing, and assistant boss Lee Sharp took training and performed media duties in his absence. Sharp is set to lead the team at Rugby Park if Goodwin is not passed fit to be in the dugout.
Assistant's update on Goodwin's condition
Sharp said: “The manager wasn’t feeling well yesterday, he went to the hospital and they have kept him in for observation.”
“I’ve spoken to him a couple of times but that’s as much as I know. He’s as frustrated as anyone because he wants to get out, be here today and be at the game tomorrow. But we’ll just have to see what happens, they’re running more tests.”
Goodwin in good spirits
Sharp added that Goodwin remains in good spirits despite the setback. “He’s in good spirits, giving me my instructions! I asked him how he was feeling and he said he feels great. I don’t know if he will be in the dugout, he wasn’t sure when I spoke to him.”
“I think he’s hopeful he will be out today or tomorrow morning at the very latest. If he doesn’t make it, I’m sure I’ll have him in my ear somewhere.”
Team already selected
Goodwin had already picked his team before falling ill, and Sharp says little will change if he is not on the touchline. “The team was already picked, there were a couple of things we spoke about earlier in the week, a few debatable ones, but he already had the team in his head.”
“The players trained as normal, they just got on with their work and prepared as we normally would for any game. I have had to step in before a couple of times, I think the last time was during Covid. It’s been when the manager has been in the stand suspended.”
“We work that closely, he’s the boss and we know what he wants.”
