Jac Morgan scored on his full home debut for Gloucester as the Cherry & Whites thrashed Harlequins 48-0 at Kingsholm on Saturday night. The Wales captain crossed in the first half, and supporters from his village club Brynamman RFC made the journey to cheer him on.
Support from Brynamman RFC
Friends from Brynamman travelled to Gloucester to support Morgan, and at full time the Wales skipper embraced his new fan club, as Gloucester called them on their Instagram page, posing for a picture with a Welsh flag in the background. He also signed a shirt for them.
Morgan, along with former Ospreys team-mate Dewi Lake, moved across the Severn Bridge this summer and have made an immediate impact in the Gallagher PREM. Lake has been handed the captaincy and scored a brace on debut last weekend as Gloucester beat Exeter.
Impressive start to the season
Gloucester have started the season with two wins from two, sitting second in the standings. Head coach George Skivington was upbeat about his side's display, saying: “I was expecting a good performance but I wasn’t expecting a nilling, which is very hard to do in the Prem.
“Nilling a team is outstanding and shows great character. We have worked hard to be quicker off the line in defence and what particularly pleased me was how we raced back at the end to keep our line intact.
“I’m pretty pleased at how it went but we could have done a lot of things better and it’s testament to the group that they are not satisfied. At half-time we said we were in a good spot but needed to take a few more opportunities and I thought we were more accurate with our strikes in the second half.”
National recognition
Morgan's efforts were recognised in the national press, with the Telegraph labelling his signing as the "shrewdest piece of business by any club" in the PREM. "In summer signing Jac Morgan, they have an outstanding signing who is already living up to the hype," the paper wrote. "The Welshman has been brought in to add a different dimension to Gloucester’s renowned grunt and he showed plenty of it again on his home debut.
"Just two games into the new campaign and it is easy to see why Morgan’s arrival is already being heralded as the shrewdest piece of business by any club in the top flight."
GloucestershireLive also rated the Wales talisman highly in their match ratings, handing him a score of 8/10. They wrote: "Scorer in his home debut, powered through in the maul to send himself over the line. Used his strength to gain yards over his opposite man on multiple occasions. Worked well as a vice-captain to direct his fellow forwards. Great day for the new signing in his first game at Kingsholm."
