Gabby Logan's Son Reuben Chooses Scotland Over England and Wales

Reuben Logan, the 20-year-old son of BBC Sport presenter Gabby Logan and former Scotland rugby star Kenny Logan, has chosen to represent Scotland in rugby, snubbing both England and Wales. The back-row forward previously played for England U18 but switched his allegiance to Scotland, making his debut for the Scotland U20 team in the 2025 Six Nations.

Family Heritage and Rugby Ambitions

Gabby Logan, born in England, is the daughter of Welsh football legend Terry Yorath. She represented Wales in rhythmic gymnastics at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. Reuben, born in 2006 alongside his twin sister Lois, grew up with a mixed heritage: English, Welsh, and Scottish through his father Kenny, who earned 70 caps for Scotland.

Reuben's decision to play for Scotland follows his father's roots. He told Scottish Rugby after his U20 debut: "I was immensely proud to put on the shirt. I was obviously really happy with having that experience. That’s one that I’ve thought about for a while so, yeah, it was amazing." He added that playing for Scotland at Murrayfield is his ultimate goal: "Every person that puts on the thistle at any level wants to play for Scotland and that’s the end goal to play on that pitch."

Requests at Grandfather's Funeral

Despite his commitment to Scotland, Reuben faced requests to switch to Wales during his grandfather Terry Yorath's funeral earlier this year. Gabby Logan revealed on Sam Warburton's SW7 Academy podcast: "I’m very proud of my Welsh heritage and recently we lost my dad. We had a lot of Welsh people at the service and a fantastic choir came up from Cardiff and there was 50 of them and they’d had a pint or two and were asking Reuben if he’d consider switching allegiances." She added: "To be fair to Reuben, he’s been Scottish since he was born."

Reuben's Rugby Career

Reuben made two appearances for Northampton Saints before joining Sale Sharks on a two-year deal ahead of the 2025/26 season. He featured in four Premiership Rugby games, continuing his development. His decision to play for England U18 was a temporary step, as he explained: "I spoke to dad about it, obviously, I had to get his approval that I was allowed to put on the rose, even if it was just for a few times. It was good for my development to be there but I always had in the back of my mind the main goal, which is obviously [playing at Murrayfield]."

Family Support

Gabby Logan recalled her husband Kenny's reaction to their son playing for England U18: "Kenny was not quite sure how to cheer for him that day. He used to just shout, ‘Come on Reuben’ and I’m like, ‘You can’t just say come on Reuben’ and he was like, ‘I can’t say come on England.’"

Reuben's choice has been a source of pride for his family, with Gabby stating that he has always identified as Scottish. The 20-year-old remains focused on his goal of playing for Scotland at Murrayfield, a dream that aligns with his father's legacy.
