Daniel Jones is set to remain with the Indianapolis Colts for at least two more years after agreeing to a new contract worth up to $100m, a person with knowledge of the deal told the Associated Press on Wednesday. The quarterback will receive $88m over the next two seasons, with $50m guaranteed, and can earn an additional $12m through incentives.
Jones led the Colts offense to an 8-2 start last season before suffering a season-ending torn Achilles tendon in early December, having played through a hairline fracture in his left leg. It remains unclear whether he will be ready for the season opener in September, though Colts general manager Chris Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen have expressed hope he will participate in training camp.
The No 6 overall draft pick in 2019, Jones was limited to six games in 2023 and started 10 games for the New York Giants in 2024 before being benched and released. However, he thrived in Indianapolis, completing 68% of his passes for 3,101 yards and 19 touchdowns, with eight interceptions.
Ballard made re-signing Jones and receiver Alec Pierce his top offseason priorities. The Colts placed the transition tag on Jones last week and agreed a four-year, $116m deal with Pierce on Monday. To keep the duo together, Ballard traded longtime No 1 receiver Michael Pittman Jr to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a late-round draft pick. The Colts may also seek a backup quarterback after giving Anthony Richardson permission to seek a trade.
