George Russell's title hopes suffered a severe blow when he was involved in a first-lap incident with Lewis Hamilton at Les Combes. The British driver was forced to retire, and he later criticised his Mercedes team, pointing to what he perceives as a weakness in the car's setup.
"It's incredibly frustrating," Russell said. "We had the pace, but the car's inconsistency in qualifying and race trim has cost us again. We need to sort it out if we want to challenge for the title." The collision was deemed a racing incident by the stewards, with no further action taken.

With Antonelli now 50 points clear of Russell in the drivers' standings, the title race appears to be swinging decisively in the Finn's favour. The next round at Monza will be critical for Russell, who must close the gap to keep his championship ambitions alive.
