Aberdeen will have 500 fewer fans at their Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Rangers after the SPFL imposed sanctions for supporter behaviour in the previous round. The club must also cover the cost of the unsold tickets.
The sanctions follow two separate incidents during Aberdeen's quarter-final win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on 12 September. The match ended 1-1 before Aberdeen won 3-1 on penalties, and the club's supporters were involved in a large-scale organised and illegal pyrotechnics display as well as a pitch incursion after the shoot-out.
SPFL confirms sanctions
In a statement, the SPFL said: "The SPFL can confirm that Aberdeen have been sanctioned following the behaviour of the club’s supporters during their Premier Sports Cup quarter-final match, away at Kilmarnock."
The statement added: "Proceedings into two separate serious incidents - a large scale organised and illegal pyrotechnics display, and a pitch incursion - at the club’s 1-1 draw at BBSP Rugby Park on 12 September, which Aberdeen won 3-1 on penalties, have now concluded."
Reduced allocation for Hampden
As part of the sanction, Aberdeen's ticket allocation for the semi-final against Rangers at Hampden Park on Saturday 31 October has been reduced by 500 tickets. The club is required to pay for these tickets as part of the punishment.
The semi-final draw paired Aberdeen with Rangers after Derek McInnes' side defeated Celtic at Ibrox in their quarter-final.
