Adam Peaty Targets LA 2028 Olympics After Dominant British Championships Win
Peaty Eyes LA 2028 After British Championships Victory

Adam Peaty has emphatically signalled his enduring commitment to elite swimming, setting his sights firmly on a fourth Olympic appearance at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. This ambitious declaration follows his dominant performance at the Aquatic Great Britain Swimming Championships, where he stormed to victory in the 100 metres breaststroke.

A Commanding Performance

The six-time Olympic medallist powered to a winning time of 58.97 seconds on Tuesday, comfortably outpacing world junior champion Filip Nowacki, who finished in 59.39 seconds, and Max Morgan, who clocked 59.56 seconds. Peaty confessed that the result surpassed his own expectations, having initially anticipated a time over 59 seconds.

"I didn't think I could get that result, so that’s now the marker, that’s the baseline, so how do we turn that into a low 57 again. For me, I’m a racer, and I just want to extract the best of myself," Peaty told reporters after the race. His performance stands as the second-fastest globally this season, trailing only Japan's Shin Ohashi, who recorded 58.67 seconds.

Race Strategy and Mindset

Reflecting on his approach to the race, Peaty revealed a determined mindset. "I just said to myself, 'What have I got to lose'? And it was nothing, so why not give everything and risk it. And it worked out," he explained. This attitude underscores his competitive spirit and willingness to push boundaries in pursuit of excellence.

Sustained Dedication to the Sport

Peaty emphasised his ongoing passion and commitment to swimming. "I'm still heavily invested in the sport. I train every single day, pretty much. I enjoy swimming, so I want as much time in the water as I can," he stated. This daily dedication highlights his drive to maintain peak performance as he progresses in his career.

Historic Ambitions for Los Angeles 2028

Looking ahead to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, Peaty, who last year announced plans to add the 50-metre breaststroke to his Olympic programme, could achieve a historic milestone. At 33 years old, he would become the oldest British swimmer ever to secure an Olympic gold medal if successful.

Peaty already boasts an impressive Olympic record, with three gold medals from three previous Games, alongside three Olympic silver medals. His most recent silver came at the Paris Olympics two years ago, where he narrowly missed defending the 100m breaststroke title he had won in both 2016 and 2021. Despite moving into his thirties, he shows no signs of slowing down, with his sights set firmly on further glory in Los Angeles.
