England manager Thomas Tuchel faced fierce criticism despite guiding his team into the World Cup last-16 with a 2-0 win over DR Congo, courtesy of two late Harry Kane goals. The performance was described as "rubbish" by some, while Scotland fans remain anxious about the prospect of England succeeding on the 60th anniversary of their 1966 triumph.
Fans Slam Tuchel's Tactics
Alan Lough from Dunbar did not hold back, saying: "Thomas Tuchel and his England team should be absolutely embarrassed rather than delighted at getting past DR Congo because apart from Harry Kane and his two goals, England were worse than rubbish. They should apologise for serving up that drivel."
Scottish Support for England? A Divided Opinion
Denis Bruce from Bishopbriggs offered a contrasting view: "I would hope that there are many more Scots like myself who hope that England under Thomas Tuchel can raise their game to bring the World Cup back to Britain on the 60th anniversary of the 1966 triumph. For the sake of the players and their German manager, I would enjoy seeing them lift the trophy."
Scotland's Early Exit and Referee Woes
Scotland's own World Cup campaign ended in the group stage, with Steve Clarke's side losing to Morocco and Brazil after a narrow win over Haiti. Clarke resigned after the tournament. Donald Grant from Bowling criticised the lack of Scottish officials at the tournament: "Watching the World Cup and seeing referees from the most obscure places in the world - and not being very good - makes it even more ridiculous that we don't have one Scottish official at the tournament. Get Willie Collum and his training officials removed."
Rangers' New Boss and Signings Under Scrutiny
Derek McInnes, who left Hearts to become Rangers manager, has already made five new signings. Barriemore Barlow from Dunbartonshire was unimpressed: "I'm puzzled by the euphoria surrounding the appointment of Derek McInnes as Rangers boss. He won one trophy in a largely uneventful managerial career. The signings seem a very similar grade to Russell Martin's picks." However, Alec Morrison from Musselburgh urged patience: "You've got to laugh at some Rangers fans. Players haven't even kicked a ball for us yet and they are getting slated. This is, so far, looking like one of the best windows we have had in a very long time."
Looking Ahead
England face Mexico in the last-16 on Sunday, while Scotland fans continue to debate whether to support their neighbours or hope for an early exit.
