Top jockey Hollie Doyle is facing a spell on the sidelines after being injured in a fall at Bath on Friday that resulted in the death of her horse, Vault Of Heaven. The 29-year-old, Britain's most successful female jockey, was unseated when the Kevin Frost-trained horse suffered a fatal injury two furlongs into a sprint handicap. Doyle was taken to hospital.
Doyle had earlier won the previous race aboard Flight Signal, trained by Archie Watson, marking her tenth victory in a fortnight. She had been due to ride at Salisbury on Saturday but withdrew, with her mount Zoum Zoum handed to Daniel Muscutt. In an Instagram post, she said: 'Thank you for all the messages, unfortunately I will be on the sidelines for a while after sustaining an injury at Bath yesterday. Thoughts are with connections. I'll be back!'
Doyle has ridden 1,135 British winners, including ten at Group 1 level. She fell just short of a century of winners in 2025 after a short-term contract in Hong Kong, but has already notched 53 victories in 2026. Her husband, jockey Tom Marquand, has 26 wins this season.
An update on her condition indicated the injury is to her leg and not more serious, with an operation expected. The racing community has sent messages of support.
