Cora Schumacher, the former wife of ex-Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher, has broken her silence after he came out as gay in July. Ralf, brother of seven-time F1 champion Michael, announced his relationship with French business manager Etienne on social media, posting a photo with the caption: "The most beautiful thing in life is when you have the right partner by your side with whom you can share everything."
In an interview with Der Spiegel, Cora expressed hurt that Ralf did not inform her beforehand. "I wish Ralf had included me or at least let me be part of his decision. It would have been a sign of respect," she said. She recalled that during his F1 career, she asked him about rumours in the paddock, but he denied them and suggested she needed psychological help. "When he announced it, it was like a stab in the heart," she added.
Cora, a former racing driver and model, said she feels "used" during the marriage and questions whether he loved her. The couple split in 2015 after 14 years of marriage and have a son, David, who races in German GT Masters. David publicly supported his father, writing: "I am very happy that you have finally found someone with whom you really feel comfortable and secure."
Ralf's coming out was met with widespread support from the motorsport world, including McLaren CEO Zak Brown, tennis legend Boris Becker, and former rival Jacques Villeneuve. Cora, now a TV presenter, recently appeared on the German version of I'm a Celebrity.
