Lando Norris became Formula 1 world champion at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, celebrating with a kiss and hug from his girlfriend, Portuguese model Margarida Corceiro. The McLaren driver finished third at the Yas Marina Circuit, enough to secure the title with a 12-point lead over Max Verstappen.
Norris, 25, was in tears after crossing the line, thanking his team and family over the radio. He later embraced his parents and Corceiro, with whom he went public earlier this season after an on-and-off relationship. Corceiro has been a visible presence in the paddock, drawing attention from fans and rivals alike.
Her visibility sparked criticism from Norris's former teammate Carlos Sainz after the Singapore Grand Prix, where broadcasters frequently showed drivers' partners. Sainz said the production team 'go overboard' with such shots. Corceiro responded: 'I don't call the cameras. If they record me, they record me.'
Norris, who has been with McLaren for nine years, paid tribute to his rivals: 'I want to congratulate Max and Oscar as well, it has been a pleasure to race against both of them.' He added: 'I am happier for the team more than me.'
