How Antonelli Can Seal Historic F1 Title in Mexico

Kimi Antonelli is on the verge of becoming the youngest-ever Formula One drivers' champion as the series heads to Mexico City this weekend. The Mercedes driver has won half of the 18 races so far this season, building a commanding lead in the standings.

Antonelli had the chance to clinch the title at the previous round in Austin, Texas, where he took a comfortable race win. However, team-mate George Russell, who sits second in the championship, finished eighth to delay Antonelli's celebrations.

Championship Picture Before Round 19

Antonelli heads into the Mexico City Grand Prix with a 123-point advantage over Russell and a 124-point lead over third-placed Lewis Hamilton. With four races remaining after this weekend, the Italian holds a decisive edge in the title fight.

The top of the drivers' standings sees Antonelli on 365 points with nine wins and 15 podium finishes. Russell follows on 242 points with three wins, while Hamilton is third on 241 points with one victory.

What Antonelli Needs to Win the Title

Any finish of ninth or better will be enough for Antonelli to be crowned champion, regardless of where Russell and Hamilton place. If neither Russell nor Hamilton wins the race, Antonelli will also secure the title.

Should Antonelli finish tenth or lower, or fail to finish, Russell or Hamilton could keep the title fight alive, but only by winning the race. The permutations leave Antonelli in a strong position to wrap up the championship with races to spare.
