Dream Start for the USA
The hosts enjoyed a dream start as Cameron Burgess turned the ball into his own net in the ninth minute. Mauricio Pochettino's side doubled their lead just before the break through Alex Freeman, although the goal required a VAR check to be confirmed.

While the USA enjoyed the nature of their first goal, it was the second that truly ignited the crowd at Lumen Field. Balogun should have wrapped things up minutes into the second half but was denied by a solid block from Alessandro Circati. Australia built some momentum midway through the second half after manager Tony Popovic made changes at the break. However, none of their opportunities were especially clear-cut until a few late attempts as the hosts failed to clear a corner, allowing the USA to celebrate a well-deserved victory.
