Wigan's Nathan Lowe Collapses Twice at Magic Weekend

Wigan Warriors winger Nathan Lowe collapsed twice after sustaining a severe leg injury during the Magic Weekend encounter against St Helens at the Brick Community Stadium, causing a halt in play shortly before half-time.

Incident Details

Lowe, making just his second Super League appearance for the Cherry and Whites, was forced into touch by a group of Saints defenders. As they dispersed, it became clear he had suffered a serious leg injury. Medical personnel rushed to assist him and helped him to his feet to guide him towards the tunnel.

However, as they escorted Lowe along the sideline, the Wigan player collapsed again. Paramedics helped him back to his feet, but he appeared to lose consciousness once more and had to be placed on the ground near the touchline. Referee Chris Kendall decided to stop the match due to Lowe's condition. Several minutes passed before the final moments of the opening period could be concluded, with Lowe placed on a stretcher and carried down the tunnel.

Medical Update

Broadcaster Sky Sports later revealed that Lowe had suffered a drop in blood pressure as he was being helped from the field, which caused him to pass out. National World reporter Drew Darbyshire shared his perspective from the stands, posting on social media: "Looks pretty grim for Wigan youngster Nathan Lowe. He is assisted from the field by a couple of members of staff after landing awkwardly. Sad blow for the young winger, who came in to replace Noah Hodkinson for this game."

Other Injuries

Lowe was not the only player to depart the field due to injury. Daryl Clark and Ethan Havard had both exited the match for head injury assessments shortly before the incident involving Lowe unfolded. Clark was also carried off the pitch on a stretcher after receiving treatment on the touchline for several minutes.

Match Context

At the time of Lowe's injury, the Warriors and Saints were engaged in a thrilling encounter. Saints took the lead when Jackson Hastings slotted over a penalty goal after 13 minutes. However, it was the home team who crossed for the opening try of the contest. Adam Keighran touched down first when he made a late surge down the right flank and collected a perfectly weighted pass from Jack Farrimond.
