Andoni Iraola has confirmed that Jeremie Frimpong and Dominik Szoboszlai will be unavailable 'for some time' after both players were forced off with injuries during Liverpool's 2-1 win at Brentford on Saturday.
Recurrence for Szoboszlai
Szoboszlai, who had missed Liverpool's previous two matches with a hamstring injury, lasted only 32 minutes against Brentford after suffering a recurrence of the same problem. Frimpong, introduced at half-time, was forced off after just seven minutes.
Recovery concerns
Speaking after the match, Iraola described the situation as 'very delicate'. He pointed to the team's recent schedule, noting they had played a Champions League away match two days earlier and arrived home late at night, likely without proper recovery time.
'You are in doubt between the players that have already started two games and are very tired, or the players that are recovering from injuries but you're probably not 100 per cent certain,' Iraola said.
Different cases
The Brentford boss explained that the two injuries were different. 'Dom felt the same injury, it's not a new injury and was probably not healed enough, so we will need more time with him. Jeremie's was new, I think he finished cramping the other day [against LASK].'
Iraola added that he had brought Frimpong on because, with Brentford playing against ten men, he felt the defender could offer more going forward than Ronald. He also praised Victor, who performed well at right-back.
'But it will mean we will lose Dom and Jeremie for some time, yes,' he concluded.
