An update on the Visit Altrincham Facebook page stated: 'Unfortunately Matheus Cunha has had an accident in training today and will not be able to attend tonight’s Christmas Lights Switch on in Altrincham due to medical reasons.' The club has yet to comment on the incident, and BBC Sport reports that the appearance was not arranged through Manchester United.
Cunha, who joined from Wolves for £62.5 million last summer, has scored one goal so far this season. He is considered key to manager Ruben Amorim's system, particularly in linking up with forward Bryan Mbeumo. His potential absence would compound United's injury woes, with Harry Maguire and Benjamin Sesko already ruled out for Monday's match against Everton.
If both Cunha and Sesko are unavailable, Amorim faces a selection dilemma with no natural senior centre-forward options. Mason Mount could play as a false nine, while teenager Chido Obi Martin and Joshua Zirkzee are alternative choices.
