Mason Mount was withdrawn less than 20 minutes into Manchester United's pre-season friendly with Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday, handing Michael Carrick a potential worry with the start of the Premier League season just two weeks away.
Standout pre-season performer
Mount has been one of the standout players of United's pre-season so far, starring alongside new signing Andrey Santos in midfield.
The 27-year-old was named in Carrick's starting XI against PSG on Saturday, again partnering Santos in the centre of the pitch. There looked to be a good chance that midfield pairing would be Carrick's preferred choice against Hull on the opening game of the season in two weeks, given most of United's other options have either yet to return or only just returned to training following the World Cup.
Early exit
However, if that was Carrick's plan, that plan might now be in doubt after Mount was taken off early in the first half on Saturday.
The former Chelsea man appeared to collide with a PSG player before being withdrawn and replaced by Tyler Fletcher. Carrick will likely give an update on the midfielder after the game.
