Mason Mount is expected to return to the Manchester United squad for the Premier League match against Ipswich this weekend, but winger Amad is set for a longer spell on the sidelines.
Mount back in training after hamstring issue
Mount has not been seen since being taken off in the first half of a friendly against Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg three weeks ago, with United initially saying that was a "precaution". He then missed the final two friendlies of pre-season and did not feature as United lost to Hull City on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.
The 27-year-old has been dealing with a minor hamstring injury, but he has been back in first-team training this week and should return to the squad on Sunday.
Amad out until after international break
Amad is absent and is in a battle to feature before the first international break of the season, which begins on September 21.
"Amad won't be involved this week," said Carrick. "He'll be out for a little bit longer. Mason's back around the group, which is great. Trained this week. So that's a real positive for us."
World Cup trio in contention to start
The three players who only returned to pre-season training for the final week after featuring in the last weekend of the World Cup are all in contention to start, with Lisandro Martinez, Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford pushing for inclusion from the off.
"We got a squad to choose from," he said. "We got a good squad, and we could pick a variety of combinations within the team. So, we'll pick a team for the weekend. But yeah, certainly the boys are massively in contention."
