Mason Mount is an injury doubt for Manchester United's pre-season meeting with Leeds United on Wednesday night. The midfielder was substituted during the recent draw against Paris Saint-Germain, being forced off in the early stages. He was later seen leaving the stadium without assistance, but it has emerged that he suffered a foot injury.
Mount misses training
According to ESPN, Mount flew to Ireland with the rest of the United squad but missed training on Monday and Tuesday. As a result, he is not expected to feature against Leeds at Croke Park, with Michael Carrick unlikely to take any chances ahead of the new Premier League season getting underway next weekend.
It marks the latest fitness setback for Mount, who has managed just 72 appearances in three years since joining United in 2023. He has almost missed as many fixtures as he has played in during his spell at Old Trafford, having been absent for 70 competitive matches since the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign.
Carrick's comments
Addressing Mount's knock against PSG, United head coach Michael Carrick commented: "He got kicked. We just wanted to be careful and look after him. We've been lucky with injuries so far, so we wanted to be careful."
Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez has linked up with Carrick's party in Ireland following an extended break after Argentina's progression to the World Cup final. Marcus Rashford, who had a successful loan stint at Barcelona last season, has taken part in training sessions after his return to Carrington on Sunday.
Pre-season schedule and transfer activity
United have just two pre-season fixtures remaining before their Premier League opener against newly-promoted Hull City on August 22, facing Leeds before taking on Ruben Amorim's AC Milan three days later.
It has been a productive summer for United, who have strengthened their midfield following Casemiro's exit at the end of his contract and Manuel Ugarte's serious knee injury. Andrey Santos arrived in a £48m deal from Chelsea before Youri Tielemans signed for £35m from Aston Villa.
Speculation has mounted that a third midfielder could yet follow. The Reds are believed to be keeping tabs on AS Monaco playmaker Lamine Camara at present, though with the 22-year-old tied down until 2029, any negotiations are likely to prove challenging. Further alternatives include Everton's Iliman Ndiaye and Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni, although prospects of landing the latter appear virtually non-existent, given his determination to remain at the Bernabeu.
