Manchester United began the Premier League season with a 2-0 defeat to newly-promoted Hull City and an additional injury concern. Amad Diallo is the latest player to join the casualty list after picking up an injury in training last week, adding to what has been a frustrating start to the campaign for Michael Carrick's side.
Amad Diallo injury update
Diallo was left out of the travelling squad for the match against Hull. It was later revealed he had sustained a minor issue in training towards the end of last week, with the full extent of the problem not yet known.
Ahead of the Hull match, Carrick said: "He just picked up a niggle right at the end of the week, in training. We'll assess that and see where he's at."
"Hopefully, it won't be too long but we'll have to wait and see. He was in a good place, Amad. He was looking sharp and obviously looking forward to the season, so it's disappointing but, unfortunately, that's part of it. We've got the squad that we can cope with it, so we've got to keep moving and, hopefully, we'll get Amad back soon."
Further clarity is expected when Carrick speaks later this week to preview the match against Ipswich Town, with hope that Diallo will be passed fit to face the Tractor Boys. Potential return date: August 30 vs Ipswich Town (H).
Mason Mount closing in on return
Mason Mount has not featured for United since suffering a foot injury in a friendly against Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month. The issue was described as a knock at the time, but it has now ruled Mount out for two weeks.
Previewing the trip to Hull, Carrick indicated Mount was close to a return, suggesting he could be fit to face Ipswich. He said United were "managing Mason a little bit, but he's very close, so it's touch and go for the weekend, really, if not, going into next week."
"He's picked up a little bit of a knock, it's no dramas. Maybe it's been a week or so, or 10 days or whatever it's been. We have got to have a squad that's strong enough to have a really good, top starting team with a depth to carry us through the season. Mason will be back very, very soon, if not immediately. So it's all good."

Matthijs de Ligt and Tom Heaton latest
Matthijs de Ligt has not played competitive football since suffering a back injury in November, but he is back in first-team training. Carrick has played down his chances of featuring soon.
"Matta's obviously been out for a long period of time, but he's training and it's great to have him back," he said. "He won't be involved, but he's in good shape and moving in a good direction, so that's a good bonus for us really, at this stage, to have him back."
Potential return date: Autumn/Winter 2026.
Veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton picked up an injury in the friendly with PSG, but the nature of the issue is unclear. Per reports in the Manchester Evening News, it is feared what appeared to be an innocuous knock could be more sinister, and the player is undergoing tests. The results have not been revealed, and Carrick did not speak on his condition this week. Potential return date: Unknown.
