Man United injury news: Sesko, De Ligt, Darlow out

Manchester United return to action for the first time in pre-season this weekend as preparations for the 2026/27 Premier League and Champions League campaign get properly underway. Michael Carrick's side travel to Finland to take on Wrexham on Saturday.

Squad confirmed for Wrexham clash

Ahead of the game, United have confirmed their 25-man squad who will make the journey. New signing Andrey Santos has been included and could make his first appearance for the club.

Participation in the World Cup this summer means several names are missing from the list. Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez are still over in America with England and Argentina, respectively.

England take on France in the third-place play-off on Saturday. Argentina will then face Spain in the final just under 24 hours later.

But for United, eyes will be on getting pre-season off to a positive start. With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest injury news ahead of the game against Wrexham.

Benjamin Sesko

Injury: Shin

The striker has been left out of the squad for the friendly against Wrexham as he continues his recovery from the injury he picked up towards the end of last season. The Slovenian is continuing to follow his own program as he recovers.

Matthijs De Ligt

Injury: Back

The defender has been out of action with a back injury since November, with the problem seeing him miss the World Cup with the Netherlands. He has undergone an operation and continues his recovery. He is not included in the squad for the game against Wrexham.

Karl Darlow

Injury: Minor procedure

The new signing has been left out of the travelling squad for the match, with United confirming that he is in the final stages of recovering from a minor procedure he had at the end of last season.

Youri Tielemans

Injury: Hamstring

Tielemans missed Belgium’s World Cup quarter-final defeat vs Spain with a hamstring injury; however, the injury is reported to be minor, with Tielemans expected to be fit enough to start the new season. The midfielder is not part of the United squad for the game vs Wrexham due to being given additional time off after taking part in the World Cup.

Manuel Ugarte

Injury: Knee

Ugarte is expected to be on the sidelines for some time after suffering a knee ligament injury while representing Uruguay at the World Cup. United have confirmed that the midfielder has undergone successful surgery and will now begin his rehabilitation overseen by the club’s medical and performance staff.
