Tino Livramento has returned to full Newcastle United training, but head coach Matthias Jaissle has made clear he will not take any risks over the defender's return from injury. Jaissle suggested he would prefer Livramento to come back one week later than expected rather than rushing his comeback.
Training return and matchday absence
Livramento was pictured back in training last week ahead of the opening day draw with Liverpool, but Jaissle confirmed before that game that it was too soon for the England international to be involved with the matchday squad. As a result, the 23-year-old has missed both of Newcastle's games so far this season as he continues to recover from a calf injury that ruled him out of the World Cup with England in the summer.
In the meantime, summer signing Amar Dedic has been outstanding at right-back, easing the pressure on Livramento's return. That suits Jaissle as he manages the former Southampton star's recovery.
Jaissle's cautious approach
"Step by step," Jaissle told Chronicle Live when asked if Livramento was close to being back involved in the matchday squad. "First of all, we are happy now that he is back in training and he is now also fully integrated.
"He still follows somehow an individual programme but sooner than later. He is fully back in training and then we can talk about squad plannings when he will be able to be in the matchday squads and getting the first minutes."
"But, again, step by step. He was long out and we want to take our time and learn out of the past. Giving him rather one week longer than shorter to have him on a consistent basis back."
Full-back search continues
Newcastle are in the market for another full-back and hope to tie up a deal before the end of the transfer window. They currently have no left-back cover, with Dan Burn and Livramento injured, leaving Lewis Hall as the only senior option, although Dedic has played there in the past.
