Kai Havertz will leave the Germany camp to have a scan on his hamstring after suffering an injury against the Netherlands. The 27-year-old Arsenal forward came off midway through the first half of Thursday's 1-1 draw in Amsterdam.
Havertz had been on the end of a high challenge from Crystal Palace midfielder Quinten Timber, the brother of Arsenal defender Jurrien. Germany manager Jurgen Klopp admitted post-match that both Havertz and team-mate Jamal Musiala, who pulled out of the starting XI in the warm-up, would likely miss the remainder of the international break.
Return to Arsenal for treatment
The Athletic now report that Havertz will leave his international team-mates and return to Arsenal's facilities for treatment. But there is optimism in North London that the suspected injury is not serious.
Havertz started Arsenal's first five games of the Premier League season and has scored three goals in seven across all competitions. Mikel Arteta will hope that he is available for their clash with Leeds on Saturday, October 10.
Klopp confirms scans
But Klopp certainly will not have him at his disposal when Germany host Greece on Sunday. "At the moment both are on the MRI (scans)," the former Liverpool boss told radio network RTL. "I hope we get the diagnosis tonight. But of course that's not great now. I hope this is just nothing bad. The boys are probably out for us. But hopefully then also relatively quickly available again."
At the end of the 2024-25 season, Havertz missed 20 games for club and country due to a hamstring injury. The 27-year-old then missed the first half of last term with a knee injury.
Arsenal's fitness concerns
It took Havertz weeks after he made his initial return to get up to full fitness, so Arsenal will be desperate not to lose him to another long-term injury. "Kai is extremely intelligent, that's his biggest quality," Arteta hailed last month. "He is five seconds ahead of the game and he just makes the people around him better. He is scoring goals, producing chances, his work rate is outstanding and he is in an outstanding emotional state."
Arsenal have nine games in 27 days before the November international break. The Gunners take on Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Everton, Liverpool and Hull in the Premier League, while they face Lille, Bayern Munich, Fleetwood and Slavia Prague in cup competitions.
