A 21-year-old man from Falkirk died in hospital after an industrial accident at a yard run by his family's business. Steven Dougall was injured on 21 July at the premises of Horizon Reinforcing & Crane Hire Co. Ltd.
Emergency services were called at 9.55am to reports of a man seriously injured on Castle Drive. Dougall was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, where he died a short time later.
Police and HSE investigating
Police Scotland said the death is not being treated as suspicious but enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. The Health and Safety Executive has been made aware.
A police spokeswoman said: “Around 9.55am on Tuesday, 21 July, 2026, we were called to a report of a man seriously injured at an industrial premises on Castle Drive in Falkirk. Emergency services attended and a 21-year-old man was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert by ambulance where he died a short time later. His family is aware. The death is not being treated as suspicious however enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. The Health and Safety Executive has been made aware.”
An HSE spokesman said: “We are aware and assisting Police Scotland with their enquiries.”
Tributes to 'hardworking, kind-hearted' young man
Over the past two weeks, tributes have flooded in for Dougall, described as a "hardworking, kind-hearted young man" with ambitious goals and a bright future. Hundreds attended a balloon release in his memory at Dollar Park last Tuesday, reported the Daily Record.
An obituary posted online said: “The Falkirk community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Steven Dougall, whose passing at the age of 21 has left his family, friends and loved ones devastated. Tributes shared in his memory reflect the profound impact he had on those around him and the deep sense of loss felt by everyone who knew him. Steven is being remembered as a hardworking, kind-hearted young man with ambitious goals and a bright future ahead of him… those closest to Steven remember him for his warm personality, infectious sense of humour, determination, and ability to create lasting memories with family and friends.”
His family has requested privacy as they mourn their beloved son, grandson, cousin and friend.
Memorial football match
Dougall, a keen amateur footballer, played for Pantry FC, a local Monday league 6-a-side team. A memorial match was held last week in his honour.
The team said: “Steven Dougall was the heart of Pantry and great friends with everyone involved, nobody was as competitive and infectious as him when it came to football in any form. The sudden loss of Steven has hurt everyone so deeply… We’d like to thank everyone who took part in this and especially all those who came to watch the game and support the boys in playing this match for Steven. It meant the world to those playing and to Steven’s family to see how many people turned out for him.”
