Tottenham blow as De Zerbi confirms Savio out for 'some weeks'

Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that Tottenham winger Savio will be sidelined for 'some weeks' due to a muscular problem, dealing a fresh blow to the club as they languish at the bottom of the Premier League table.

The 22-year-old, who joined from Manchester City in August for an initial £75 million, has made five appearances in all competitions, scoring on his debut in the EFL Cup. However, he will now miss a string of games after picking up the injury before Spurs departed for a training camp in Marbella.

Injury details and timeline

'Savio, unfortunately, on Tuesday, before we left for Marbella, he felt a muscular problem and we lost him for some weeks, unfortunately,' said the Spurs manager. When asked for an exact prognosis, De Zerbi added: 'I don't know, but some weeks for sure.'

The injury adds to Tottenham's mounting concerns, with Lucas Bergvall also ruled out. De Zerbi explained: 'Lucas had a problem at the beginning of the game in Manchester, the first chance we created with [Dominic] Solanke, when he regained the ball, his knee… he felt pain. He finished the game, but the day after, (last) Sunday, he came to the training ground to our medical staff. I think two weeks.'

Team news and upcoming fixtures

Pedro Porro is also out, though the Spanish full-back could return against Chelsea. 'I think he's coming – maybe in Chelsea he can play,' said De Zerbi.

Tottenham are bottom of the Premier League with just three points from their first six games. They host Coventry on Monday night and face London derbies against Chelsea and Crystal Palace before the end of the month.

Monday also marks the long-awaited return of Dejan Kulusevski, out since May 2025 with a knee injury. 'Yes, Kulusevski on the bench. We had a meeting with the medical staff, they gave the okay and it's great news,' said De Zerbi. 'I think it's one of the best news after Everton game last season, because Deki, he suffered too much. He deserves to feel emotion on the pitch. We are happy, we are very, very happy. It's not football. I'm not speaking about football. Okay, he's a special player, but we are speaking about different things. He suffered a lot and his reaction was great.'

Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert remain on the long-term injured list, while Rodrigo Bentancur is suspended after his red card against Manchester United last time out.
