Michael Carrick will be without a number of key players when Manchester United host Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Sunday, with Amad ruled out and Mason Mount closing in on a return.
The Reds suffered a 2-0 defeat to Hull City in their opening fixture last weekend, with Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy scoring in the first half. Carrick will be hoping for a turnaround when his side return to action at Old Trafford.
Amad and Mount updates
Amad was left out of the squad that travelled to Hull due to a minor injury sustained in training. Carrick has confirmed he will not be available for the Ipswich fixture, saying: "Amad won’t be involved, he’ll be out for a little bit longer."
Mason Mount has been sidelined with a foot injury sustained against Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month. Carrick provided a positive update, saying: "Mase is back around the group, he trained this week, so a real positive."
Baleba and De Ligt sidelined
Carlos Baleba, who joined United in a £70million move from Brighton & Hove Albion, is unlikely to feature for another couple of weeks due to an ankle ligament injury sustained during pre-season. Carrick explained: "He’s got a little ankle issue, so maybe a couple of weeks or so, three weeks. We knew that before. It’s no major issue. It’ll be great to have him back."
Matthijs de Ligt has not featured since last November due to a back injury. Carrick downplayed his chances of featuring soon, saying: "Matta's obviously been out for a long period of time, but he's training and it's great to have him back. He won't be involved, but he's in good shape and moving in a good direction."
Heaton also absent
Tom Heaton picked up an injury during United's pre-season friendly with PSG. The exact issue is unknown, and Carrick has not provided a timeline for his return.
