Scottie Scheffler's caddie Ted Scott is in line for another huge payday this weekend as the world No.1 aims to clinch the Tour Championship title on Sunday. The four-time major winner sits joint-third in the standings ahead of the final round at East Lake.
Scheffler is aiming to win the prestigious event for a second time, having previously captured the title in 2024. The 30-year-old faces the task of overhauling Viktor Hovland's three-stroke lead in Atlanta, Georgia.
Potential earnings for caddie
The Tour Championship winner will scoop up the £7.3million ($10m) top prize, which would also see Scheffler's caddie Scott likely earn another eye-watering sum. While the precise details of the arrangement between Scheffler and Scott are unknown, caddies typically earn around 10 per cent of a winning purse, with smaller percentages for lower finishes.
If Scott has a similar agreement with the world No. 1, a Tour Championship victory would earn him around £730,000. Should Scheffler remain third, Scott would receive a portion of his £2.73m in prize money.
Scheffler's 'childish' approach to money
However, Scheffler has previously admitted that he is largely unaware of his financial arrangements with Scott. The golfer explained that, while he signs off on the payments, he delegates his finances as he is childish when it comes to managing his money.
Speaking on the Pardon My Take podcast in 2024, he said: “It’s been a fun year. I don’t really think about the money that much. At the end of the day, I’m just playing golf and the money is just a gift on top of that.
“We have a girl that helps us pay bills because I’m basically a child and can’t keep track of that stuff. She quickly took over that job and texts me at the end of each week saying. ‘Hey, this is how much we’re paying Ted.’ I’m like, ‘That’s great.’”
Career earnings and standings
Scott has been Scheffler’s bagman since 2021, helping him win all four of his major titles. Despite failing to win a major this year, Scheffler did manage top-five finishes at the Masters, US Open and Open Championship.
He remains the PGA Tour’s highest earner of 2026 so far. The American star has secured around £15.4m ($20.9m) in prize money, boosted by his recent win in the FedEx St Jude Championship, which has likely earned Scott around £1.5m this year.
Moreover, he sits second in the PGA’s all-time rich list with £88.8m ($120.3m), narrowly behind Tiger Woods (£89.3m). A strong final round at East Lake would see Scheffler overtake Woods and claim top spot.
Scheffler sits on 12-under-par and is currently part of a four-way tie for third, alongside Chris Gotterup, Ludvig Aberg and Adam Scott. Hovland leads the way on 15-under, while American Ryan Gerard is one shot behind.
