Rashford stuns England teammates with nutmeg in training

Marcus Rashford left his England teammates open-mouthed during the final training session ahead of their World Cup last-16 clash against Mexico at the Azteca Stadium. The Three Lions are preparing for a hostile encounter in Mexico City, where they will face a Mexican side eager to advance.

Rashford's moment of magic in rondo

The 28-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Barcelona, delivered an impressive piece of skill during a rondo drill at Club Universidad Nacional. After John Stones tapped the ball to him, Rashford scooped it into his possession and released it with a rapid flick, finding Morgan Rogers with his pass. Crucially, he sent the ball through Ezri Konsa's legs as the Aston Villa defender attempted to claim it.

Rashford was in hysterics at what he had just pulled off, while Jarell Quansah, Harry Kane, Declan Rice and Dan Burn all quickly put their hands on their heads in disbelief. Djed Spence could only cover his mouth. England captain Kane eventually fell to the floor laughing, while Rashford stomped away doing the same. Konsa, after belatedly closing his legs, simply ran away.

Teammates praise Rashford's skills

Despite the reactions, the squad is familiar with Rashford's antics. Arsenal star Bukayo Saka previously noted that Rashford cannot resist trying to embarrass defenders. "I have to say Rashy, Rashy is very good at the rondos," Saka said. "He hardly ever goes in, and every time I've been in the box he has to nutmeg someone, at least one person."

Jordan Henderson also praised Rashford, adding: "Rashy will probably get the most megs." Declan Rice offered further compliments: "Rashford is very good in the box, he's just so smooth with it, his feet are so sharp. He finds little pockets to pass into."

Rashford's place in the starting XI

Rashford has started England's last two matches, against Panama and DR Congo, and will hope to retain his place for a third successive game. He faces competition from Anthony Gordon for the spot on the left wing.

England's preparation amid noise

England's squad had to contend with drumming and fireworks outside their hotel on Saturday evening, but head coach Thomas Tuchel refused to use that as an excuse. Speaking before the disruption, Tuchel said: "We had no issues tonight and I think FIFA took care of the situation. We have security around the hotel so we expect a good night's sleep. I don't want to talk about problems that don't exist yet. If they come, we will accept them. The best way to approach is to be relaxed and calm."

Tuchel added: "We have a six o'clock kick-off, so if we miss some hours of sleep, we will have time to get some other hours in the late morning. What I experienced until now was very respectful and emotional and very supportive towards our teams, so we are very respectful towards everyone. We expect to be treated with respect and that was the case. It was even nicer than I expected."
