Marcus Rashford appears firmly focused on Manchester United as the transfer window winds down. The academy product made his return to action for the club in defeat to Hull after a summer of uncertainty over his future.
Rashford had been expected to leave permanently, but Barcelona chose not to trigger the option in his loan deal to secure the England international's signature. Instead, the 28-year-old has been welcomed back by Michael Carrick and came off the bench in the opening game.
Rashford's focus on Old Trafford return
Rumours over Rashford's future persist, with Arsenal and Chelsea linked to late moves. But the forward's attention is on United's next match, despite just days of the transfer window remaining.
"Old Trafford Next," Rashford posted on Instagram, as the team prepares to host Ipswich Town. The forward is in contention for a place in Carrick's starting lineup following his cameo last weekend.
Rashford last played at Old Trafford in a competitive game in December 2024, coming off the bench in a 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest under Ruben Amorim.
Reintegration and new squad role
His reintegration came after clear-the-air talks with the club's hierarchy to discuss his future. The attacker is under contract until 2028 and was awarded the No. 9 shirt for this term.
Carrick suggested he has been happy with Rashford's commitment ahead of the opening match. "It's been pretty obvious since Marcus came back training with Kobbie [Mainoo] and Licha [Martinez] pretty much in Dublin that he's come back fantastically well, you know," he said last week.
"He's enjoying his football, he looks fit, he looks sharp, he looks strong, he looks ready to play football. So I've been delighted with him since he's came back."
Versatility in attack
Rashford can offer United versatility, strengthening Carrick's options on the left flank and providing another body capable of leading the frontline. Benjamin Sesko is the club's only out-and-out forward currently.
"I wouldn't say it's necessarily his number one position, but he can do that," Carrick said. "And I think we've got forwards that give us that flexibility right across the front line that we've used all of them pretty much in slightly different roles."
