Newsboy has provided his selections for the seven-race card at York, with tips covering the Sky Bet Lowther Stakes, the Harry's Half Million By Goffs, the Sir Kevin Sinfield 7 in 7 Grand Finale Handicap, the Legend Global Yorkshire Oaks, the British EBF & Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes, the Mews Hotel Ossett EBF Stallions Nursery Handicap, and the British EBF Fillies' Handicap.
Wild Blossom tipped for Lowther Stakes
Wild Blossom is Newsboy's selection for the 1.50 Sky Bet Lowther Stakes. The 300,000-guinea breeze-up purchase began her career with a 10-length victory in a novice stakes for fillies at Carlisle in May, beating subsequent Listed winner Crownbreaker. Despite a 10th-of-27 finish in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, where she was drawn in stall seven and finished just over four lengths behind winner Victorious, Wild Blossom returned to winning ways at Glorious Goodwood in the Alice Keppel Fillies' Conditions Stakes, defeating Fast Track by a length and a half.
Newsboy noted that while Wild Blossom has raced exclusively at the minimum trip, she should not be troubled by tackling an easy six furlongs and has untapped potential at Group 2 level. Libertango, winner of Royal Ascot's Group 3 Albany Stakes, is expected to be a contender, along with Star Of State and In The Black.
Sun Goddess and Blue Brother among other selections
In the 2.25 Harry's Half Million By Goffs, Sun Goddess is Newsboy's pick. The Group 1 winner, a daughter of Sioux Nation, won the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh last Sunday week, beating Folsom Blues by a length and a quarter. Despite a 7lb penalty, Sun Goddess sets the standard for the race. Tokaido, Satellite Of Love, and Vollering are also mentioned.
For the 3.00 Sir Kevin Sinfield 7 in 7 Grand Finale Handicap, Newsboy selects Blue Brother. The five-year-old, trained by Hamad Al Jehani, finished eighth in the Golden Mile at Glorious Goodwood after leading early, but Newsboy suggests he is better judged on his stable debut at Royal Ascot, where he took fourth in the Buckingham Palace Handicap. Defending champion Bullet Point, The Lost King, and Arctic Dawn are also noted.
Johanna Walsh value in Yorkshire Oaks
Johanna Walsh is Newsboy's value alternative to hot favourite Kalpana in the 3.35 Legend Global Yorkshire Oaks. Trained by Joseph O'Brien, the Sea The Stars daughter won the Irish Oaks at the Curragh by four lengths, having previously finished second in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot. Kalpana, winner of the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes, is greatly respected, along with Minnie Hauk and Legacy Link.
In the 4.10 British EBF & Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes, Morrophore is selected. The five-year-old mare, trained by John and Thady Gosden, has won four of her eight races, including the Winter Oaks Trial Fillies' Handicap at Lingfield Park in December and the real thing in January. A La Prochaine, Vauntingly, and Sunshine Star are expected to compete for minor medals.
Mirzimaan and Oolong Poobong in later races
Mirzimaan is Newsboy's choice for the 4.45 Mews Hotel Ossett EBF Stallions Nursery Handicap. The juvenile, by sire Mohaather, finished last on debut but won a six-furlong novice stakes at Newbury before a short-head second to Asander at Newcastle. Perfect Nation, Revels, Bymiddaytomorrow, and Telegraphic are also mentioned.
Finally, in the 5.20 British EBF Fillies' Handicap, Oolong Poobong is tipped for each-way support. The Ed Bethell-trained filly finished fourth in the Sandringham Fillies' Handicap at Royal Ascot in 2025 and has since had two outings this season, including a 20th in the Kensington Palace Handicap. Oolong Poobong's stablemate Caim, Secret History, and Lam Yai are also recommended.
