Jacey Carrick, son of Manchester United manager Michael Carrick, made an appearance for the first team in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Lausanne Sport at Carrington on Friday.
The youngster was given a chance to play in the friendly against Ineos-owned Lausanne at Carrington. With several senior players still on international duty, academy players heavily featured to make up the numbers.
Senior players and youth involved
Harry Maguire, Carlos Baleba and Matheus Cunha were among the senior players confirmed to have been involved, with the match seen as more beneficial for the club's younger players.
Michael Carrick's son signed scholarship terms with United over the summer. The 16-year-old is a defensive midfielder, like his father, and has made strong progress in the academy over the last few years.
Academy progress and family ties
Carrick played for the Under-16s last season but has stepped up to feature for the Under-18s, managed by Darren Fletcher, in this campaign. That means United fans could see Carrick in FA Youth Cup action this season, along with Kai Rooney, son of Wayne Rooney, who is set to feature in the competition again this term.
Fletcher's sons Jack and Tyler have both made their first-team debuts since joining from City's academy. Jacey is at a much earlier stage of his career but will now try to develop to reach that goal after signing his scholarship.
Scholarship ceremony and first-team support
When Carrick junior signed his scholarship deal, he said: "This day is very special because I remember the first time when I signed for Man United and it just brings back flashbacks. To put this blazer on is brilliant."
The United boss attended his son's scholarship ceremony along with his wife, Lisa. When United's U18s played Manchester City at the City Academy in February, the 44-year-old attended the game to show support for that age group, but he also kept an eye on his son on the adjacent pitch, as the Under-16s were also playing City.
Carrick's son has been a regular attendee of first-team matches since his father's appointment in January. After United's win against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium last season, Carrick's son was waiting in the designated area outside the dressing room, but a security guard attempted to escort him away. When the security guard asked him if he had the credentials to be in the area, he responded: "I'm with Michael Carrick."
