Lewis Hall has opened up on his early impressions of Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle, praising the German's man management after a summer of uncertainty on Tyneside. The England international signed a new contract last week following months of speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United.
Hall on Jaissle's first impression
Speaking to beIN Sports, Hall admitted he was unsure what to expect when Jaissle arrived, but that changed quickly. "The new manager came in and I was unsure on what he'd be like. Whenever there is a new manager and new staff you are never sure what it is going to be like," he said.
"Ever since the first meeting I had with him, I could tell he was a proper manager. What I like about him is his man management with players and how he is with people, and how he makes everyone feel wanted. Everyone feels part of the team, so that's really important for me. Every session and every game that has gone in."
Life under Jaissle at Newcastle
Hall has enjoyed a new lease of life under Jaissle, delivering a string of good displays, an assist against AFC Bournemouth and the winning goal against Hull City, as well as earning an England recall. Reports of a fall out with former head coach Eddie Howe were denied by Newcastle earlier this year, but Hall ended last season being used at right-back or not in the line-up.
Jaissle arrived in the Premier League unproven in the English game but has steadied the ship at Newcastle after a stressful summer. The Magpies sit ninth in the table after losing just one game and have reached the last 16 of the Carabao Cup after seeing off West Brom and Millwall.
Hall's commitment and next fixtures
Hall added: "You can tell he is a great coach and has great staff as well. Ever since I had the first conversation with him [Jaissle], I knew that my head was definitely to stay here. As a team, I believe we've got so much we can achieve this season. If we can combine everything together we can have a great season."
Newcastle travel to the Coventry Building Society Arena to face newly promoted Coventry City after the international break. Before then, Hall is hoping to shake off a niggle that saw him sit out England training on Wednesday. The left-back was recalled by Thomas Tuchel after missing out on the World Cup squad and is looking to make his mark in the four upcoming games.
