Sir Alex Ferguson was photographed wearing a protective boot as he arrived for Manchester United's match against Ipswich on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils were aiming to bounce back from their opening weekend defeat to Hull City in their first home game of the season. As football returned to Old Trafford, so too did its most iconic manager.
Videos showed the legendary manager sporting a protective boot on his left leg as he stepped out of his car, with assistance given towards the entrance. Sir Alex was also seen with a walking stick as he was greeted with cheers.
Health history
The former United boss suffered a health scare in May when he was taken to hospital before United's clash with Liverpool. He had started to feel unwell at the stadium and was taken away in an ambulance, where he was checked over as a precaution.
The Scot had a life-threatening brain haemorrhage in 2018, something he spoke about three years later: "[I am] probably [now] not taking things too seriously in terms of knowing that you're vulnerable. If I go tomorrow I'll be grateful for the three years extra I had. That's a feeling I've had for quite a while now."
Legacy at Old Trafford
As United manager, Sir Alex led the Red Devils to 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, four League Cups and two Champions League triumphs. He retired in 2013, the last time United won the top tier.
He has worked as an ambassador for the club in the years that followed and is a regular at Old Trafford. The Scot will be hoping for a better result on Sunday as United look for their first win of the season.
