Arthur Fery has responded to questions about Emma Raducanu's trajectory, insisting he has the right people around him to avoid getting "distracted" after his own breakout Wimbledon run.
The British No. 2, who stormed into the semi-finals at Wimbledon as a wildcard ranked No. 114 in the world, has since risen into the top 40 and guaranteed himself entry into the sport's biggest tournaments.
Learning from Raducanu's experience
Asked whether there were lessons to be learned from Raducanu's trajectory, Fery told the Guardian: "Yes, definitely. It's really important to have good people around myself."
"My coach, my parents, my agent are in it for the right reasons and are going to guide me down the right road even when there are so many more commitments. That's the first step towards not being distracted."
In 2021, Raducanu enjoyed a fairytale run at Wimbledon of her own, reaching the second week as a teenage wildcard ranked outside the top 300, just weeks after finishing her A Levels. She then became the first qualifier in tennis history to win a Grand Slam title at the US Open as the world No. 150.
Stabilising as a top 30 player
Fery's Wimbledon run allowed him to completely shatter his ranking goal for the season. He started 2025 as the world No. 185 and wanted to crack the top 100. Now sitting at No. 37, the Wimbledon local doesn't want to get too ahead of himself.
"We haven't spoken about ranking goals since Wimbledon. I started the year at No 180 and I wanted to be top 100 by the end of the year," he explained. "I've got that done but I now need to stabilise as a top 30 player and then push on because there are a lot of things I feel like I do better than those players above me. But there are also lots of things where I'm not as good as them."
US Open debut ahead
Fery is currently competing in Winston-Salem, where he's into his first tour-level final, and will make his US Open debut next week. With a few wins under his belt and little points to defend until January, he can keep making a push and find some consistency.
