Arsenal's Emirates Stadium has been named the Premier League's smelliest ground, scoring 8.8 out of 10 in a study that combined air quality data with Tripadvisor reviews mentioning smells, stink and other odour complaints.
Analysis from SeatPick covered every Premier League ground, building a stink score out of 10 for each. A lower score indicates better air quality, while a higher score means more pollution and a whiffier experience for fans.
South coast grounds rank freshest
Bournemouth's Vitality Stadium ranked best in the league with a score of 0.5 and not a single Tripadvisor mention of a smell problem. Brighton and Hove Albion's Amex Stadium followed in second with a score of 1.4.
Newly-promoted Ipswich Town's Portman Road came third with 1.7, while Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium scored 1.8 despite sitting directly adjacent to a large enclosed wastewater treatment and sewage-processing plant. Sunderland's Stadium of Light rounded out the top five with 2.6.
Mid-table and bottom-ranked grounds
Hull City's MKM Stadium and Newcastle's St James' Park both scored 3.2, with Nottingham Forest's City Ground just ahead on 3.4. Liverpool's Anfield and Coventry's Coventry Building Society Arena shared 3.9, while Leeds' Elland Road scored 4.2.
Manchester United's Old Trafford came in ninth with 5.6, followed by Crystal Palace's Selhurst Park on 6.1. Manchester City's Etihad Stadium scored 6.3, Brentford's Gtech Community Stadium 6.7, and Fulham's Craven Cottage, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Aston Villa's Villa Park all scored 7.0.
Chelsea's Stamford Bridge took second place in the unwanted ranking with 7.3, recording some of the highest nitrogen oxide readings in the division, although no Tripadvisor review flagged a smell issue.
Emirates leads on pollution readings
Arsenal's Emirates Stadium topped the list with 8.8, recording the highest nitrogen dioxide, nitrogen oxide and fine particulate readings of any Premier League ground in the study, attributed to its dense urban setting and heavy matchday traffic. Tripadvisor mentions of smell issues there sit well below the league average.
