Wrexham have made a shock approach to sign former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen, but the 33-year-old has turned down the move. The Danish international became a free agent after leaving United this summer, and the Hollywood-owned club pursued him following their promotion to the Championship.
Eriksen's agent, Martin Schoot, confirmed the approach, saying: 'Wrexham are really upgrading everything both on and off the field, and it is a hugely impressive project. But Christian still wants to play in a first-tier competition and he absolutely wants to stay in Western Europe.' The midfielder has attracted interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, the United States, Turkey and Brazil.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has already signed six players this summer, including Plymouth striker Ryan Hardie, ex-Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward, Empoli left-back Liberato Cacace, Bolton captain George Thomason, former Sheffield Wednesday forward Josh Windass and Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien. The club are also linked with Wales striker Kieffer Moore.
Eriksen, who has 144 caps and 46 goals for his country, previously played for Ajax, Tottenham, Inter Milan and Brentford. He joined Manchester United in 2022 after recovering from a cardiac arrest suffered during Euro 2020, making 107 appearances and scoring eight goals for the club. Wrexham's chief executive Michael Williamson, who previously worked at Inter Milan, is said to be using his Italian contacts to aid recruitment.
