Wrexham have completed the signing of former Premier League defender Conor Coady from Leicester City on a two-year deal, reportedly worth around £2 million. The 32-year-old centre-back, who has nearly 200 top-flight appearances for Wolves, Everton, and Leicester, becomes the latest high-profile addition to the Hollywood-owned club.
Coady, who has ten England caps and was part of Gareth Southgate's squads for Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup, said: 'I'm over the moon. It's a special day. We've all seen what the club has done over the past few years and for me to join is really special.'
The Red Dragons, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, fought off interest from Scottish giants Rangers to secure Coady's signature. Manager Phil Parkinson said: 'We're delighted to welcome Conor to the club. He's a player who has experience in the Premier League and Championship and will be a great addition to the squad.'
Wrexham have now made seven signings since gaining promotion from League One in April, as they prepare to play in the Championship for the first time in 43 years. The club has already broken its transfer record twice this summer, with deals for Liberato Cacace and Lewis O'Brien, and is reportedly close to a third record with a £7.5m offer for Ipswich's Nathan Broadhead.
Parkinson is keen to finalise his squad early, ahead of their season opener against Southampton. Speaking to BBC Sport Wales, he said: 'Ideally, we'd like to make a couple more additions. Is that going to happen before the start of the season? It's difficult to say. But the most important thing is by the end of August we've got a squad in here which we feel can compete.'
